This is how you get organized, and getting organized is how you stay focused.

When you have clearly defined goals, and clarity about what you need to do daily to achieve those goals you tend to spend less time on the things that don’t bring you closer to them.

That is the system. Once you have that in place you can figure out how to use your app(s) to implement the system. And you will likely find you can consolidate 2 or more apps now that you have an actual system for how to use the (an) app. Most of you have an app, but not the system.

This week (as of October 25, 2024) there has been a lot of buzz about this Decoder interview between Nilay Patel and Sasan Goodarzi:

Intuit asked us to delete part of this Decoder episode

I’m not sure why Intuit asked him to cut anything. He puts the part they wanted him to cut at the beginning highlighting his refusal to comply. I listened to it, and I don’t think it was bad at all. I think Intuit did more damage by asking him to remove it, then any that might have been done by letting it fly!

And the main question here that seemed to be the subject of the controversy was the one of Intuit’s lobbying against “free tax software.”

As to the question of lobbying against the government doing taxes FOR people? Our government is like the embodiment of incompetence. Do you seriously want to trust them to do this for you and get it right?

Intuit as a Platform Company:

Credit Karma + Mailchimp

I am a user of Credit Karma. For a long time, the web app wasn’t even working. I couldn’t log in other than through the mobile app - this is what support told me to do until they figured it out. It seems to be working now.

Where is the one place where you can access all of this?

Where are the integrations?

I would expect to see an integration with QBO & Mailchimp that invites me to send well segmented messages based on my sales and invoicing data.

For an integration with QBO & Credit Karma I am looking for suggestions for how to get financing, and how to build credit for my business. I don’t see anything like this.

In fact, when I log into Credit Karma it appears to be 100% focused on individual finances, not business.

Sasan talks about “data connection” vs integration. That’s smart. But I don’t see where the connections are, do you?

I personally cannot believe how much time people spent on this!

I recognized immediately that this was a mistake, because there is no way I am getting any kind of a badge for anything desktop in 2024!

I spent less than 2 minutes (discuss GTD) and moved on, until I saw SO much buzz about it.
